The joint venture\u2019s supermarket chain Star has been struggling to make a mark with only 57 stores across the country, compared to Reliance Retail\u2019s 797 and DMart\u2019s 214. Pushed into a corner, Star now has little choice but to think big<\/p>\n\n

India\u2019s supermarket war seems to be in its endgame. With the dust finally settling, the field is littered with the corpses of those who have tried and failed to make it their own. Some of India\u2019s biggest conglomerates, like Aditya Birla Group and the Godrej Group, gave up the ghost and sold out.<\/p>\n\n

India\u2019s top two retailers\u2014Reliance Industries-owned Reliance Retail and Avenue Supermarts-run DMart\u2014are now squaring off against each other in a final fight for dominance. The third claimant to India\u2019s retail throne, Future Group-owned Future Retail, which runs the Big Bazaar chain<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
