In her early years, Aparajita was inspired by stories of women who broke through expectations and circumstances to effect meaningful change in their fields. She worked to bestow awards on them and honour them, humbly, with the pride she felt at their life’s work. With each edition, her pool of teachers, supporters and advisors has grown, stretching the boundaries of her mission and influence.

Yet, as Aparajita’s impact has begun to make measurable waves, she has left us all stunned. We had never dreamed that her mission would become so much more urgent and relevant in the present. We did not expect that her community of nominees would become so diverse, or how benevolent and giving her patrons would come to be – not just towards Aparajita but for the women whom she can empower the most.

Aparajita has tuned her ear to stories that are difficult to find and known to few, that can only be heard if one is not just hearing but really listening. And she is listening.

The deeper she listens to these stories, the more needed she feels. These stories are of women who do what they do to strengthen other women’s lives, sometimes for profit, but always for good.

The future calls to Aparajita to honour these stories meaningfully. This is why she is now providing access to capital, a boost of confidence, a community and education to women who need it. This is where Aparajita was always meant to be.
